Do your summer plans include revising a syllabus? Are you looking for ways to help students engage in more effective classroom dialogues across difference?  Are you revising or developing a course for UP Group IV, including the new category on studies in discrimination?

We welcome you to join us for an informal faculty workshop on “Engaging Students in Dialogue across Differences.”  Andy Blom (PHL/REL) and Ulana Klymyshyn (CHSBS) will co-facilitate a discussion of the main features of intergroup dialogue and how these can deepen classroom discussion, especially about difficult topics.

Come join us on Friday, April 20th at 3:00 pm in the Center for Inclusion and Diversity (Bovee UC 108).  Some refreshments will be provided.  This opportunity is brought to you by the Multicultural and Diversity Education Council (MDEC) and the General Education Council.  Topics to be covered include: establishing guidelines for respectful interactions, listening to understand without judgment but with empathy, using personal experience to create shared meaning, and being mindful of the power dynamics in the class.
